Randy Neugebauer regresses to middle school, calls Bart Stupak baby killer

It might be that Republican Rep. Randy Neugebauer may be the poster child for why Texas should secede from the Union, in that it will keep people like Randy Neugebauer from public view. Neugebauer, who has since admitted to shouting “Baby killer!” before members of the House after the health care bill passed, was supposedly objecting to what he views as pro-abortion leanings in the bill. Much like South Carolina’s Rep. Joe Wilson, who shouted “You lie!” at the President during the State of the Union, and Neugebauer apparently couldn’t resist the temptation to make himself look like an idiot. He shouted at Rep. Bart Stupak the “baby killer!” moniker after the Michigan Democrat voiced his support for the health care bill.

Neugebauer claims it wasn’t aimed at Stupak

Yet Randy Neugebauer apologized to his House colleague anyway. He claims that the bill itself is “a baby killer ” – which might be a grab at campaign funds from anti-abortion activists. Who knows – perhaps he was looking for some debt settlement relief?

He Who Shouts Baby Killer may be steamed over receiving less than $ 3,000 from the anti-abortion gallery (dollar figure taken from a Center for Responsive Politics survey). OpenSecrets.org purports that anti-abortion groups might be enticed to get out their checkbooks. A lot of opponents of the health care bill are none too pleased. Former G.W. Bush speech writer David Frum says “It’s Waterloo all right: ours.” There’s a Fire Nancy Pelosi petition making it’s rounds, but they’re a day late and a dollar short to pull the plug on health care reform.

Who are He Who Shouts Baby Killer’s backers?

According to OpenSecrets.org, “the National Auto Dealers Association, National Association of Home Builders, Quantum Energy Partners, National Beer Wholesalers Association and National Association of Realtors” contribute to Randy Neugebauer. That’s just in case you want to know.

Is this the sort of thing that Texans are proud of?

Randy Neugebauer may represent your beliefs, but do you feel that he is scoring points for Republicans with his “He Who Shouts Baby Killer” routine? Mr. Stupak isn’t a baby killer. Acting like a neurotic, emotionally unhinged, and  panicking teenager benefits no one. They draw ridicule, not just from the media, but from people who understand adult behavior.

Shouting “Baby killer!” at grunt soldiers returning from Vietnam didn’t endear that small group of offending hippies to America, either. In both cases, it has everything to do with knowing nothing about what you’re talking about and giving in to the dumber side of human nature. Randy Neugebauer would have been more endearing if he’d been more transparent. Simply asking for anti-abortion group money would at least be more to the point. He could have also looked into payday loans with no fax as a quick source of funding, though Mr. Neugebauer would have to repay within a couple of weeks.
